1. Question: How do you manage
acute patients when the MD is not in the house or when the managing
physician is not a specialist. Is it feasible to train several
nurses in the area of resuscitation and have these nurses be
called?
2. Question: How have non intensivists
been trained to be MET leaders?
3. Comment: To be a successful
MET leader, one must learn to be a team player, which most physicians
are not. It seems that the medical school admission process
needs to focus on applicants who are team players.
4. Comment: One option to improving
training is the FCCS course by SCCM. It is open to advance-practice
nurses, critical care nurses, and physicians who provide >
50% of practice in critical care.
5. Question: Simulator training
moves you farther towards competency than does FCCS training.
But what opportunities are available to those without access
to simulator training?
6. Question: How do we address
sustainability and durability of simulator training? How do
these skills mesh with everyday practice. How often is retesting
and retraining required?
